Introduction
In the summer of 2015, a few farmers could be seen with their heads down, backs bent, transplanting rice on a paddy field... they are farmers from Hong Kong, experimenting with permaculture on foreign soil for the project "Gift From Land", one of many programmes in the world-famous Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale...
A must read for those interested in Hong Kong agriculture, Japanese culture, city x urban issues and public art, Farmers' Horizon: Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, Urban x Rural, Japan x Hong Kong Connect brings us deep into rural Japan where a group of Hong Kong farmers learn and experiment in foreign soil amidst the revitalisation programme through site-specific art known as Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale. This far-reaching art festival in Japan acts as a mirror for us outsiders to reflect upon our views and understanding of Hong Kong's rural-urban divide.
